The 1st Graders' Interview with the New Interim Head of School

As Ed Costello, the new Interim Head of School, starts the semester with EDS, there is a buzz of excitement going around. Being qualified and experienced to progress the mission and vision of the school, we know EDS will be in good hands during this time of transition. We’re continuing to move forward together as a community with strong leadership.


Despite his extensive resume, the students were anxious to get to the bottom of the real question at hand — who is Ed Costello? They prepared their questions and sat him down for an intense interview.

The Basics

Question: Where were you born?

Answer: Ilion, New York

Question: What is your favorite candy?

Answer: Hershey’s Kisses

Question: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Answer: Mint Chocolate Chip

Question: What is your favorite college football team?

Answer: The Syracuse Orange

Question: What is your favorite place to go on vacation?

Answer: The Adirondack Mountains

Question: What is your favorite movie?

Answer: Casablanca

Question: Do you have any pets?

Answer: Not anymore.

Question: Do you have 10 kids?

Answer: I have three children, all adults.

Question: Do you have grandkids?

Answer: Not yet.

The Curious

Question: Do you play video games?

Answer: I have never played a video game in my life!

Question: Do you like the beach?

Answer: I love the beach! I also really like seafood.

Question: Have you ever seen the Blue Angels?

Answer: I have never seen the Blue Angels, but I expect I will get the chance to now.

The Hard Hitters

Question: How old are you?

Answer: Very.

Question: How long have you been working with schools?

Answer: This will be my 47th year working with independent schools.

Question: What brought you to EDS?

Answer: I was semi-retired, and I really missed being with kids and their teachers.

Question: How long have you been in charge?

Answer: Two days and counting at EDS.

Question: Why do you want to work here?

Answer: It provides me with a wonderful opportunity to help the faculty and the board of trustees get the school ready to choose its next permanent Head of School.


Now that the ice is broken and Ed has passed the ultimate test, we are thrilled to see what the year has in store for us!
