Episcopal Day School athletics are taught in a nurturing atmosphere that stresses the importance of participation, sportsmanship and hard work, while fostering attitudes of compassion, responsibility, teamwork and integrity. Students are given support and guidance as they develop and refine their athletic skills, improve their physical fitness and build confidence in their abilities. All teams demonstrate fair and equal play with supervision of a dedicated coach.
EDS Boys Basketball starts in January and lasts through March. The eligible grades are 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade. Boys will practice twice a week and games on Saturdays.
EDS Girls Basketball starts at the beginning of November. The eligible grades are 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade. Girls will practice twice a week and games on Saturdays. This is a new time frame for girls basketball.
EDS Cheerleaders cheer for tackle football and basketball. The girls start practice on Fridays after school in August. The eligible grades are 5th through 8th grade.
EDS Coed Flag football starts in August and runs until the end of October. The eligible grades are 3rd/4th and 5th/6th. A max weight limit of 140 lbs. is in effect for any player to be eligible to play. Practices are on Saturdays before games.
EDS teams up with Little Flower to field a tackle football team. The eligible grades are 6th through 8th grade. A weight limit of 140 lbs. is in effect for running backs.
Conditioning starts in August and practices are Tuesday – Friday at Little Flower. Games are played on Saturdays. The season runs until the end of October.
Track & Field
EDS Track and Field Team consists of the following events: Long Jump, Softball Throw, 1600 Meter, 50 Meter, 400 Meter, 100 Meter, 200 Meter, 800 Meter, 4×100 Relay, and 4×400 Relay.
Age groups eligible are boys and girls 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th grades. The tournament will be a one day tournament at the end of April.
EDS Girl’s Volleyball starts in August and runs until the end of October. The eligible grades are 5th/6th girls and 7th/8th girls. Practices are twice per week with games on Saturday and some on Sundays.
EDS Tennis Teams consist of 4-6 players and a Team Captain/Coach for each age group. Age groups eligible to play are coed 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under. Matches begin April and are played on Sundays primarily at Roger Scott. Players should be able to serve, rally, and keep score.
EDS Swim Team consists of students from independent and Catholic schools joined together, and called “The Saints”. The team competes against Escambia County Public Middle Schools.
Practices start December 1st and are held at Washington High School Aquatic Center every Tuesday and Thursday. Boys and Girls teams are for 6th, 7th ,and 8th graders only. Meets begin after winter break in January.
